DECA is located on the campus of the University of Dayton. It was reorganized as a charter school in July 2007. DECA was opened as a Dayton Public School, the result of a partnership between the University of Dayton and the public school district. The Dayton Early College Academy was established in 2003 under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Early College High School Initiative, with support from the Cincinnati-based KnowledgeWorks Foundation. This school year, DPS opened River's Edge Montessoi School and Fairview PreK-8 School and will later open the new Belmont High School and Wright Brothers PreK-8 School. To date, 24 of 26 schools have been built and occupied. The district, in the final segment of its $627 million school construction program, is providing teachers and students with new facilities and state-of-the-art technology to prepare for success in a global economy. The centers are part of the district’s initiative to create strong neighborhood schools.
